Research about Scurvy

LI: To understand what a balanced diet looks like and why it is important for human health.

For our first Inquiry topic for term 2 we did a study about what a scurvy is, how can people get affected, and what can we do to avoid it. We wrote did you know facts to help us be able to learn about scurvy such as, Did you know that 73.9% of the population of North India has scurvy? Scurvy is caused by lack of Vitamin C for at least 3 months. It was mostly common for pirates/sailors.

I found this activity good because I learnt to add vitamin C inside your diet for atleast 3 months.

What is a River?

LI: To identify and describe the features of the Tamaki River

This week we have been learning about what rivers are, their unique attributes and how to label them. We then created a DLO about the Tamaki river and its history. Did you know that the Tamaki river is mostly an estuarial arm?

Using our knowledge that we acquired we showcased the features of the Tamaki river using an aerial map? We then compared the Tamaki River with a prominent river in the world. Our group chose to look at the Amazon river. Finally we made a comparison of the two rivers.

We found this activity interesting because we learnt facts about two rivers, our local one and a famous one.

Treaty of Waitangi

I learned some facts about the treaty of waitangi.

The Treaty of Waitangi is an agreement between the British crown and the Maori chiefs. This agreement is for peace between the two tribes. William Hobson and James Busby wrote the treaty of waitangi, However the painting on my DLO was made by Marcus King.

Inqiury

I explaned my transport and said how it helps society.

First I had to download my DLO and labled my boat.

Then I added the introduction, my introduction told what I chose to make, I chose to make a boat that can go on land.

Lastly I added my explantion, talking about how each part worked, and how it helped society.

I liked this task and I enjoyed it, but I think I need to get better at making my introduction.

Designing an Vehicle

I learnt how to design a vehicle.

First I made a brainstorm of pros and cons about the different modes of transport. For example: A cons for jet ski is “its so hard to find becase of the price”.

Next I needed to fix the cons for each vehicle.

Lastly I made a vehicle that has wings and has a bouncy castle because it’s like a babysitter.

I enjoyed this task because I learnt how to design a car. I need to improve on making a better vehicle. I did well on my design.

Rails

First I had to talk about what is a Stakeholder. A Stakeholder is when they gain money from the technology.

Next I had to get into groups of 3 or 4 and explain what skateholder are and how trains benefit on a piece of paper.

After I had to research facts about trains For example : When the first steam train was built in 1804 people were worried that the speed would make rail passengers unable to breathe or that they would be shaken.

Lastly I had to make a google slide and research or write down the facts about trains and have to attribute the picture.

I enjoyed learning about trains. I did well at researching facts about trains

Pros and Cons

I done a task called pros and cons.

Pros is something good about it, Cons is something that is bad about it.

Pros about jet ski – It’s Fast, It’s Fun, Its easy to control.

Cons about ships – Its so hard to put away, It is so expensive, Fall Apart easily.
